Student Advocate Kent ISD Adult Education; Wyoming & GRCC Adult Ed Campuses Non-Union Hourly Classified, Grade 2 215 Days per Year 8:30am-5:00pm Monday-Friday; some evening availability occasionally needed 40 hours per week during the regular school year August-June Summary: The Adult Education Student Advocate supports student success for all adult learners. The Student Advocate provides services and resources that allow students to overcome barriers towards achieving educational success. Job Qualifications: Bachelor's degree preferred and/or 3+ years of experience working with adult students in a related role. Demonstrated ability to effectively work with students, families, staff, and other stakeholders from diverse backgrounds. Strong communication/interpersonal skills to effectively interact with students, staff, community partners, etc. in a courteous and cooperative manner. Bilingual abilities preferred. Ability to concentrate and pay close attention; also, ability to organize, prioritize and work independently and cooperatively, as well as schedule and produce work in a timely manner and meet deadlines. Ability to read, comprehend, and transmit complicated and detailed instructions in order to plan and perform job duties. Broad knowledge of organizational operations and policy. High level of interpersonal skills such as discretion, integrity and flexibility to interact effectively with students, staff, administrators, community partners, and the general public. Excellent computer skills: Must be able to work efficiently and effectively within Microsoft Office Suite, PowerSchool, Google products, and must be able to learn web-based applications related to the Adult Ed program and Kent ISD. Willingly flexible to assist, where needed, to support the efficient functioning of Adult Education programming, including flexible scheduling and the ability to work some evening hours, as needed, to meet the needs of students. Specific Duties and Responsibilities: Provide individualized case management to adult learners. This includes, but is not limited to: Identify and connect with students and their resident school district regarding special education services outlined in IEPs Advocate for student needs Assist with applications, forms, and other needs Provide crisis intervention that helps a student to overcome home and life situations that are a barrier to educational success Create community partnerships that allow for barrier removal. Maintain documentation and reporting that records student interaction and progress. Collaborate with educational staff to address needs of the students. Demonstrate an understanding of the unique needs of adult learners who speak multiple languages. Assist students with accommodations for GED testing. Keep the adult education team informed of opportunities in the community. Present in classrooms about programs and services that are available to adult learners. Work proactively with instructors and staff to identify students that can utilize the services provided by the Student Advocate. Engage in other duties/tasks as assigned by the Director of Adult Ed or other Kent ISD Administration.
