Job Title: Site Reliability Engineer
Location: Remote-first
Job Type: Full-Time
Summary Nametag is seeking a skilled Site Reliability Engineer to ensure the reliability, scalability, and security of our comprehensive product stack. This role requires a deep understanding of modern infrastructure, a passion for building reliable systems, and a commitment to empowering developers and end-users with seamless, secure experiences.
Role Overview As the Site Reliability Engineer, you will own and manage Nametag’s production cloud infrastructure, our continuous delivery infrastructure, and observability efforts. Working across the stack, you’ll collaborate with teams to ensure that our systems meet the highest standards of performance and security while supporting our mission to provide trusted identity solutions.
Key Responsibilities - Infrastructure Management:
- Manage Nametag’s infrastructure-as-code AWS and Fly.io environments, ensuring scalability and reliability across cloud services.
- Oversee infrastructure that supports Nametag’s integrated end-user mobile apps and identity verification engine.
- Maintain and optimize the admin console functionality, ensuring it is robust and secure.
- Manage infrastructure vendor relationships with our providers. Evaluate (and re-evaluate) our build vs. buy decisions, occasionally bringing solutions in house when appropriate, and moving solutions out to service providers when appropriate.
- Comprehensive Observability
- Lead observability initiatives across the full product stack, including uptime monitoring, tracing, and logging for mobile apps, backend services, and cloud infrastructure.
- Build tools to calculate usage statistics and identify bottlenecks in real-time.
- Improve monitoring to help engineers quickly identify and resolve issues across the stack.
- Deployment Strategy and Service Design:
- Design scalable deployment processes for both monolithic systems and new microservices as the product architecture evolves.
- Collaborate with teams to implement efficient CI/CD pipelines.
- Plan and execute schema migrations for the identity verification engine and other critical backend services.
- Developer Enablement:
- Foster a supportive culture of continuous integration and deployment, empowering developers to deliver high-quality, secure code without fear.
- Create and maintain debugging tools and automated deployment processes that enable efficient problem-solving.
- Promote authentication and authorization best practices across Nametag’s product stack.
- Technical Leadership Across the Stack:
- Act as a reliability advocate for all Nametag products, ensuring end-user mobile apps, admin consoles, and backend services operate seamlessly.
- Guide teams through debugging and resolving complex systems issues spanning the entire stack.
Ideal Qualifications We believe no one is perfect, and you don’t need to meet every qualification to be successful in this role. If you’re excited about Nametag’s mission and bring a mix of the following, we encourage you to apply:
- Experience managing and securing cloud environments, with expertise in AWS offerings such as CloudFormation, CloudFront, Lambda, RDS, and S3.
- Experience with supporting relational databases (we use managed Postgres)
- Experience with observability tools (we use Honeycomb)
- Experience with modern, type-safe languages (we use Go)
- Experience with Docker and related technologies (we don’t use Kubernetes, but we do use Docker)
- Experience designing and maintaining robust CI/CD pipelines. (we use Github Actions)
- Passion for creating reliable, user-centered systems and tools that empower both developers and end-users.
- Ability to communicate progress and plans clearly in a remote-first environment, with strong organizational and project management skills.
Compensation The base salary range for this full-time position is $120,000 to $160,000 plus equity and benefits.
