POSITION ANNOUNCEMENT: Communications Organizer ABOUT MOTHER’S OUTREACH NETWORK Mother’s Outreach Network (MON) is a nonprofit organization that advances and centers the inclusion and empowerment of Black mothers in Washington, DC in the struggle for family preservation. MON is a constituency-driven organization dedicated to family preservation. Through organizing, community lawyering, and policy advocacy, MON transforms, from punitive to supportive, government income and child welfare systems, laws, policies, practices, and culture. POSITION DESCRIPTION Mother’s Outreach Network’s seeks a full-time, experienced Communications Organizer to develop and implement communication schedules and strategies to support its various programs and administrative needs. This person reports to the Executive Director and collaborates with the Executive Director, staff, and constituents to balance communication messaging, schedules, and campaigns to advance MON’s various policy and fundraising agendas. This role bridges the gap between the organization’s mission, agenda, and revenue generating needs with timely and compelling narratives that are tailored for various audiences and communication channels. Key responsibilities include creating fundraising messages and materials (i.e. invitations, appeals, fact sheets); managing communications across multiple platforms; and collaborating with various teams to achieve fundraising goals. This person assists MON’s Executive Director and staff in building relationships and mobilizing and engaging key stakeholders in various advocacy and fundraising events. RESPONSIBILITIES Content Creation : Draft high-quality written and visual content for various communication channels, including case statements, website posts, social media communications, email newsletters, press releases, and other marketing materials. Draft compelling stories, testimonials, and updates to engage donors, volunteers, and supporters. Editing: Work with staff to edit communication materials and messages to meet various media standards and space requirements. Communication Planning : Collaborate with leadership and staff to develop and implement a comprehensive monthly communications schedule as well as strategize in designing communication campaigns for specific MON advocacy projects, community lawyering workshops, organizing campaigns, educational programs, and fundraising efforts, for example. The Communications Organizer will manage the communications schedule. Digital Marketing : Oversee the organization’s social media platforms, including content creation, scheduling, and engagement strategies. Monitor and report analytics to track performance and identify opportunities for audience growth and engagement. Communication for Fundraising Cultivation : Assist in researching and drafting communications and appeal strategies tailored for potential major donors. Communication for Fundraising Stewardship : Develop annual communication schedules and action items to maintain strategic communication with donors. Communication for Fundraising Event Organization : Under the supervision of the Executive Director and in collaboration with relevant constituents and staff, facilitates the planning and production of strategic cultivation and fundraising events. Alignment : Ensure messages align with organizational goals and priorities. Brand Management : Ensure consistency and adherence to brand guidelines across all communication materials and platforms. Outreach : Identify target audiences and communication channels to maximize social media impact. Collaboration and Coordination : Collaborate with program staff, volunteers, and partners to gather content and share impact stories for effective, timely, and continuous communication with MON donors. QUALIFICATIONS AND REQUIREMENTS Commitment to the mission and culture of MON. Candidates must live in the Washington, D.C. area. Bachelor’s degree in nonprofit communications, marketing, journalism, fundraising, or related field. Strong writing and editing skills, with the ability to craft clear, compelling messages for diverse audiences. Proficiency in digital communication tools and platforms, including social media management, email marketing, and content management systems. 4-6 years in communications, public relations, or marketing, preferably in the nonprofit sector. 4-6 years of experience in fundraising campaigns a plus. Storytelling skill and experience a plus. Experience in researching and cultivating major donors. Excellent interpersonal skills and ability to collaborate effectively with cross-functional teams that include Board Members, staff, volunteers, and constituents. Understanding of and commitment to diversity, inclusion, and equity values. Initiative and ability to work independently, with an accountability and collaboration. The ability to work in-person fulltime on Tuesdays, Wednesdays, and Thursdays, with fulltime remote work on Mondays and Fridays weekly pending in-office needs. Demonstrated work in a spirit of collaboration with co-workers and coalition partners. Enthusiasm to learn, take direction, and accept constructive feedback. COMPENSATION This is a full-time salaried position. The salary is between $100,000 and $105,000 and will align with the candidate’s relevant experience and knowledge. A health, dental and vision benefits package is provided: health insurance is covered by 100% for the employee and available to dependents. All federal holidays and all holidays observed by the District of Columbia are observed, as well as the week between Christmas and New Year.
